Meagan Carr graduated Suma Cum Laude from Baker college with a Bachelors in Health Service Administration. Following that, she achieved a Masters degree in Public Administration with an emphasis on Health Administration from Grand Valley State University. Putting her education to use, she has been working in the healthcare field for over eleven years. Six of which were spent in retail pharmacy where she experienced first hand the devastation our community members face when deciding between life saving medication or food for their families. She continues her career in healthcare at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. Meagan is an avid fighter for affordable healthcare for the citizens of Michigan, and plans to work to craft legislation that will allow all Michiganders guaranteed healthcare coverage that is cost controlled, while still allowing the value of choice that is at the heart of our American heritage.
Meagan grew up in a rural community in Newaygo county. Coming from a family of farmers and hunters, she understands clearly the implications of climate change and what environmental contamination means not just to our personal health, but to our critical food supply, and to the environment as a whole. She will work in creating common sense legislation to ensure that our air, water and land is protected so that we may pass our farming and hunting heritage down for generations to come.
Meagan believes everyone should have equal access to family planning healthcare. This will allow partners to decide what's best for their reproductive health and future as a family. And if they decide to become parents, Meagan believes that every parent has a basic right to bond with their child without worry about financial hardships; she believes this greatly strengthens the core of the family. It has been a challenge to introduce legislation for paid family leave at the federal level, so if they wont do it in Washington, then we will in Lansing!
